Pessarpappu poornalu(Moongdaal)

Ingredients:-
Greengram - 2 cups
* Sugar - 1.5 cups
* Coconut - 1 cup(Fresh coconut, grated)
* Cardamom - 3 pods
* Dosa batter - 4 cups
* Oil - Enough for deep frying
Soak the green gram for a couple of hours, grind it into a smooth paste adding as little water as possible.
Pour this batter into idly moulds and steam the idlys. You can use egg poacher if you don't have idly stand. Now powder the idlys(I used the grater), add the coconut in.
In a heavy bottomed pot add the sugar along with a little water(appxly 1/4 cup) and prepare the sugar syrup on medium heat. Syrup should reach a thread consistency. Crush the cardamom pods, add this powder to the sugar syrup(I substituted half of the sugar with jaggery). Turn off the heat. Now add the greengram&coconut mixture to the sugar syrup. Let it cool-off a bit. Prepare round balls with this mixture(I usually keep them in the refridgerator for a few minutes before I fry them in oil).
